At the beginning of 2023, with the help of Lithuanian Culture Council grant, I was able to participate in the "Indigo arts with Aboubakar Fofana" creative workshop in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. This was truly an extraordinary experience that helped me grasp the profound historical significance of indigo dye and allowed me to intimately connect with the traditions of indigo dyeing in Indonesia and West Africa.

This unique opportunity provided insight into the deep-rooted cultural importance of indigo dye while immersing me in the rich traditions of both Indonesian and West African indigo dyeing practices.

Indigo - the oldest blue pigment extracted from several species of leafy plants found in almost every corner of the world. It embodies the color associated with ritualistic West African textiles, Japanese samurai attire, and contemporary design. This pigment boasts deep dyeing traditions across Southeast Asia and holds a revered place in cultural heritage and artistic expression worldwide.
